The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has retained WSP to undertake the Detail Design and Class Environmental Assessment (EA) Study for the widening of a 10.4 km section of Highway 404 to include the addition of one High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane along each of the northbound and southbound lanes, replacement of the Rouge River Bridges, rehabilitation needs throughout the corridor and reconfiguration of the 16th Avenue interchange ramps. The HOV lanes will begin from the existing terminus on Highway 404 north of 407 ETR and extend to Stouffville Road, in the Regional Municipality of York.
The study will follow the approved environmental planning process for Group “B” projects under the Class Environmental Assessment for Provincial Transportation Facilities (2000) with the opportunity for public input throughout.
A Preliminary Design Study was completed for the 26 km section of Highway 404 from 407 ETR to Green Lane from 2014 to 2016. A Transportation Environmental Study Report was released for review and Environmental Assessment approval was received in August 2016.
